Swiss Student Permit

The Swiss Student Permit (B-permit) is required for all non-EU students staying more than 90 days in Switzerland.

The Swiss Student Permit (B-permit / Aufenthaltsbewilligung) allows Indian students to reside in Switzerland for the duration of their academic programme. Unlike a visa, it is a residence permit issued by the cantonal migration authority. It requires proof of admission, financial means (CHF 21,000 blocked account), health insurance, and accommodation.

  1. Receive Admission Letter — Get official admission confirmation from your Swiss university — this is the key document.
  2. Open Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) — Deposit CHF 21,000 in a Swiss blocked account at Expatrio, Coracle, or similar service.
  3. Gather Required Documents — Admission letter, passport, financial proof, health insurance, accommodation confirmation, photos.
  4. Apply at Swiss Embassy — Submit your student permit application at the Swiss Embassy/High Commission in India.
  5. Attend Prosper's Preparation Session — Our visa team prepares you for the Swiss Embassy interview and document review.
  6. Receive Entry Visa — Swiss Embassy issues an entry visa D (national visa) valid for your journey to Switzerland.
  7. Register at Canton on Arrival — Within 14 days of arrival, register at the local cantonal migration office to receive your B-permit card.
