Spain Student Visa

Indian students need a Spanish Long-Stay Student Visa (Visado de Larga Duración - Tipo D) to study in Spain for more than 90 days.

The Spanish Student Visa (Type D) is issued by the Spanish Embassy in India and is valid for the duration of your academic programme. Once in Spain, students must apply for the Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (TIE) — the Spanish residence card for foreigners.

Receive Admission Letter — Get your official admission letter (carta de admisión) from your Spanish university — the primary document for the visa application.
Prepare Required Documents — Passport, admission letter, proof of financial means (€565/month), health insurance, accommodation proof, completed visa application form, apostille-authenticated transcripts.
Apostille Authentication — All Indian academic documents must be apostille-authenticated through the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) India.
Submit Visa Application — Apply at the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi or Spanish Consulate in Mumbai/Chennai. Book your appointment online.
Attend Biometrics Appointment — Attend your Embassy appointment with original documents. Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are taken.
Receive Type D Visa — Spanish Embassy issues the national long-stay student visa in your passport.
Register for TIE on Arrival — Within 30 days of arrival in Spain, register at the local Oficina de Extranjería to get your TIE residence card.
Obtain NIE Number — Your NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is needed for all legal activities — banking, accommodation, mobile phone.
