Student Pass (Malaysia)

Indian students require a Malaysian Student Pass to study in Malaysia. The Student Pass is processed through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) — a government agency that manages all international student pass applications on behalf of Malaysian universities.

How the EMGS Process Works

Once you receive your offer letter and accept it, your Malaysian university submits your Student Pass application to EMGS on your behalf. You will need to submit your documents to the university, who uploads them to the EMGS portal. You can track your application status online at emgs.com.my.

Required Documents

Valid passport (minimum 18 months validity), offer letter from university, completed EMGS application form, academic transcripts and certificates, IELTS/language results (if required), passport-size photographs (white background), medical examination report from approved clinic, Student Pass application fee (approximately MYR 600–1,500 depending on duration).

Processing Time

EMGS typically takes 4–8 weeks to process the Student Pass approval. After approval, your university will issue a Visa Approval Letter (VAL). You then apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) at the Malaysian High Commission in India (processing: 1–3 working days). On arrival in Malaysia, you complete biometric enrolment and receive your iKad (student identity card/pass).

Visa Conditions

You must be enrolled full-time at the approved institution. Do not change institutions without obtaining a new Student Pass. Notify EMGS of any change of address. Renew your Student Pass before it expires — typically renewed annually.

Student Pass Renewal

Student Pass renewal is processed by your university through EMGS. Submit renewal documents at least 3 months before expiry. Renewal requires proof of academic progress (transcripts), medical insurance, and payment of renewal fees.
