Germany — officially the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) — is a country in Central Europe with a population of approximately 84 million people, making it the most populous country in the European Union. Germany is a federal parliamentary republic comprising 16 states (Bundesländer), each with its own state government and significant autonomy over education, culture, and local administration. The capital and largest city is Berlin, with other major cities including Hamburg, Munich (Munchen), Cologne (Koln), Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Leipzig, and Dresden. German (Deutsch) is the official language of Germany and the most widely spoken native language in the European Union.
