Extending the maintenance concession for Tier 4 applicants who are already in the United Kingdom |
For students applying from outside the United Kingdom on or after 1st October, they must show that they have held the required money for a 28-day period ending no more than one month before the date of their application. However, students who make a Tier 4 application from inside the United Kingdom before February 2010 will only need to show that they have the money needed on the day when they apply and not for a period of 28 days. |
Tying Tier 4 to their sponsors |
From 5th October, every new Tier 4 student will find their sponsor's reference number on the vignette in their passport or on their identity card for foreign nationals. In future, if a student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor and they made their last application for a Tier 4 visa on or after 5 October 2009, they will need to apply for a new Tier 4 visa. If a student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor, and they made their last application for a Tier 4 visa before 5 October 2009, they will continue to be allowed to change their sponsor without making a new Tier 4 application. |
Apart from the above changes, the UKBA has also stated that the most common reason for visa refusal was due to students not meeting the maintenance requirement because they didn’t have enough funds, had uncertified bank statements or bank statements from private sponsors. Hence, at TASMAC London, in order to avoid any visa refusals due to the above mentioned reasons, we have been asking students to submit a copy of their financial documents for verification at the time of payment of deposit.
The UKBA has revised its application forms and guidance for migrants who want to study in the United kingdom under Tier 4 of the point based system and for dependants of point-based system migrants. You may log onto the link to http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2009/october/new-versions-tier-4-forms for more information.
The UK Border Agency has also published a new document to assist students through the process of sponsorship under Tier 4 of the points-based system. The document is designed to answer some of the most common Tier 4 questions that are asked by students. Please go through this website link http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2009/september/new-t4-support for detailed information.
Hope the above is of help and kindly share this information with colleagues at your office who work on UK student recruitments. If you need any clarifications please do not hesitate to contact us.
Required tests
You may be required to sit on an English Language Test such as IELTS or TOEFL before the university will confirm your seat on the course. The IELTS is organized by the British Council and results take 2-3 weeks.
The minimum scores usually required are 6.0 to 7.0 for IELTS and 213 to 250 (CBT) for TOEFL.
For MBA programs in good universities, a good GMAT score is required, in addition to IELTS or TOEFL scores and work experience of 2-3 years, in addition to decent academic performance at the Bachelor's level.
Prosper Overseas can help you obtain admission in MBA programs without GMAT score too!
Cost of Education
For international students, universities set their own fees and they vary by subject and by institution. The average costs of tuition in various fields are:
Under Graduation (3-4yrs)
£4,500 to £9,000 per year
Post Graduation
£6,000 to £12,000 per year
MBA
£5,500 to £13,500 per year (Programs at some top UK business schools can cost up to £20,000 per year)
Scholarships
Up to 2500 Pounds.
For both types of postgraduate study (taught and research), you should budget for a 12-month academic year. Average living costs (covering accommodation, food, clothing, books, entertainment and travel) for an international student on a degree course are £768 per month in London and £600 per month elsewhere.
Living expenses are approx. 400 to 500 pounds sterling per month depending upon your lifestyle and the city of residence. Please note, however, that some universities include the cost of accommodation and food within the total fee payable to them.
